Editing/checking of an input Email Address at RidgeStar is made up of two general mechanisms. They are:
- Syntax validation
- Does the Email address appear in the proper format)?
- Mail Server validation
- Is there an operational Mail Server associated with the Domain?
The specified Domain normally has a Mail Server definition (MX) specified in Domain Name Service (DNS) for the domain. The RidgeStar editing routines will search DNS in an effort to establish the identity of the corresponding Mail Server and, if defined, will use that definition to determine whether or not the Mail Server is defined to the Internet in a way that is acceptable to the RidgeStar Mail Server.
