Overview

What is the Turnback concept?
Turnback is a process that enables a RefereeReferee to return a current AssignmentAssignment back to an available Status
Why use the Concept?
Basically, Turnback is opposite of SelfAssign: It permits a Referee to reverse an action he or she previously took with respect to an Assignment.
How is the concept implemented?
The Referee uses Referee: Turnback Turnback to indicate the number of the Match he or she would like to turn back. The Site then evaluates a series of Rules to determine if the Turnback is valid. If it is valid, the Assignment is marked available

What Rules?

Turnback Rules tend to be simple:

  1. Only Positions currently assigned to the RefereeReferee can be turned back
  2. The Match must be scheduled for a future date

Comments

Usually, if the Turnback is far enough in advance (e.g. 7 or more days), the Referee's name is removed from the Assignment. The Assignment is immediately available to other qualified Referees via SelfAssign.

If the number of days is less than the Chapter's acceptable value (e.g. less than 7 days in advance), the Assignment is made available to other Referees for SelfAssign, BUT the Referee doing the Turnback remains responsible for the Assignment. This ensures that a Referee turning back an Assignment at the proverbial "last minute" remains responsible to the Teams to complete the Assignment UNLESS another Referee takes the Assignment.

Of course, everyone is happy when another Referee takes the Assignment. :>)
